About East Side Lacrosse

WELCOME TO EAST SIDE LACROSSE!

WHO WE ARE

In 1969, legend has it that Roger Bunton and Don Lutz started the state’s first high school lacrosse team at L’Anse Creuse High School as a way to keep football players in shape during the off-season. Thanks to these great coaches, the “East Side” is the birthplace of youth lacrosse in Michigan.

In 2006 East Side Lacrosse began as a way to extend the training for the youth lacrosse players we were coaching in the spring.  As former lacrosse players who learned the game as high school freshmen, we learned the importance of strong fundamentals and high repetition in the off-season.  Our hard work and determination got us an East Division Championship and all the way to the State Semi-finals as seniors.  With players beginning much earlier now and with opportunities to compete year-round, the level of play in our high schools has gone up exponentially since those glory days!

To respond to the needs of our “East Side” players in 2016, our coaching staff now includes active collegiate players and coaches as well as active high school coaches looking to develop their youth feeder programs. We’ve learned what we need to do and what we don’t need to do to open the door to success for our players.  It’s been a great 10 years developing players and we look forward to helping your player grow in this great game.

HOW OUR PROGRAM WORKS…

The below PROGRAM OUTLINE will help Parents & Players understand the progression of our players at East Side:

STEP 1: LEARN.

East Side welcomes NEW PLAYERS in grades K through 12 to the sport via our INTRODUCTION TO LACROSSE CLINICS – the most popular beginner clinic in SE Michigan.  New player instruction is a pre-requisite to any of our TRAINING sessions or SPRING TEAM play.   Intro Clinics are offered in the fall and winter and are also offered in a popular SUMMER CAMP format.

STEP 2: TRAIN.

After completion of the Introduction to Lacrosse Clinic or Summer camp, players are eligible for indoor off-season FALL TRAINING and WINTER TRAINING. Players interested in getting caught up to or even ahead of their peers cannot miss out on the off-season training.

STEP 3. COMPETE.

After completion of the Introduction to Lacrosse and participation in our Training, players are welcome to join our SPRING TEAMS.  Spring is the official season for lacrosse and our players participate in weekly practices, games, and tournaments.  East Side sponsors the Macomb Bucks teams who play at Seneca Middle School’s field.

After competing on a Spring Team, a player becomes eligible for SUMMER TOURNAMENT TEAMS and FALL TOURNAMENT TEAMS which offer a higher level of play and participation in regional tournaments.  At our youngest levels some players may be ready to compete on tournament teams after receiving their Introduction to Lacrosse and training but the benefit from playing on a spring team is very important to get used to the flow of a game and playing as a team.
